Because of MOM! (I don't call her Sally)
Well, she is responsible for my being here, so I have to thank her for that. When I was little she would buy my clothes, wipe my face when it was dirty, drive me everywhere and make ALL of my meals just for starters. She modeled patience and love, gave great advice, came to my sporting events, let me play video games for endless hours, told me she was proud a thousand times, prayed for me, made time for me, and listened to me.
First point! I was fed well! One of my favorite memories of how she made all my meals was in junior high, I'm pretty sure it was for at least a solid two years, mom made me cocoa wheats everys single day before school. I will never forget how much I loved cocoa wheats. At that time, there was no better breakfast in the world than Cocoa Wheats and I got it every day. She would start making it before she woke me up. I am actually getting excited just thinking about it. I would not even take the time to treat myself that well, but she did it for me. She also started the diet thing in our family. All of us kids have some kind of conviction about food. We didn't get this from dad, because he would eat whatever. But, mom would buy all kinds of sugar-free snacks and make other health-conscious decisions for us, which I really didn't appreciate at the time, but now I am much more healthy in what I eat and it definitely comes from her! I should also mention pizza night with a double-decker from pizza house, I believe on Thursday nights- that was cool, too.
Because of mom I always had plenty of clothes on me. There were corny cardigans to impress a homecoming date, snow suits in the winter for building my snow forts, baseball uniforms, and some pretty tight and uncomfortable Lee jeans were also in abundance. I will blame the low comfort level of the Lee jeans on american culture, since everybody was wearing them at the time. And because of my mom, when I was about 7, I was honored to wear a beautiful, complete pale green suit with jacket and pants to church one Sunday night, which I unfortunately destroyed when I ran around afterwards with friends and fell on the blacktop and tore a hole in the knee. I think she was a little irate.
Because of mom, I had lots of computers and video game systems! My favorite entertainment growing up. I was allowed seemingly just about any game and was allowed to play for hours. I can remember 6 hour stretches before she would finally force me out of the house.
There are a lot of memories and events that are because of mom, but I think the most important things to me that are because of her would be the examples she gave by the way she did stuff. Mom was always real sweet and patient. I don't have memories of her being mad. I know sometimes we pushed her hard just to be vile little brats and sometimes we got the wooden spoon, but I know what would define her was her patience. She would sigh and roll her eyes ten times before we got disciplined. She enjoyed being with us and paying attention to us. She always did and still does like to listen to me. I don't know why or how she can listen to me so well and often, except that she really does enjoy and care about what I think. I have been spoiled by a mom that really cares my whole life. I thought all moms cared, loved and listened, but I found out this wasn't true. And not only does mom show me what it is to be sweet, but also what it is to be strong. She really does model the two really well. My mom never gives up! She is hopeful through the toughest of stuff. Here I am the tradesman weightlifter, but will give up ten times before she ever does! What a great example. I have struggled with stuff over the years and she is always there with encouragement. How do people survive without a parent who is always behind them? I have found life hard with one that does. But, she has always been there everytime and it has helped me a ton.
So, because of mom, I've had a thousand material gifts, experiences and examples on how I would like to be. I realize I wrote this whole thing about mom and maybe I should have wrote it TO mom, but the subject is what sent me that way. So, I need to say this TO you mom: I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!! YOU ARE A PILLAR IN MY LIFE! There has never been a time in my life when you weren't in my corner or nourishing me in some way!
THANK YOU AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

Oh, I forgot to mention, because of mom I've been called the favorite!! hahaha.
